Auto Car Tips: How WD-40 Can Help Keep Your Car Clean

Posted March 7, 2013

Your dad or grandpa probably told you about the unseen wonders held in a can of WD-40, but did they tell you how you can use it to clean your car? In this month’s blog, we’re taking a break from auto repair tips to further your WD-40 education so you can keep your car looking its best!

Removes Tree Sap

During the warmer months, you’ll probably find some shade to park in when you go out—perhaps under a tree. The problem with trees, however, is the sap that makes its way to the exterior of your car. This attracts dirt and muck, causing some unsightly spots on your car. A little bit of WD-40 can help remove this scum to keep your car looking fantastic.

Cleans Bugs

If you’ve ever been on a road trip, you know that it pretty much always ends with a plethora of bugs scattered on your windshield or grill. Usually, clearing this off can be done in a jiffy at a gas station, but sometimes you have to use something a little stronger than window cleaner. Spray a bit of WD-40 on the rough spots of your grill or windshield and you will be out of that sticky situation in no time.

Chrome Detailer

When it comes to maintaining the nice look of your car, keeping the shiny parts shiny—like chrome—is of the utmost importance. Try spraying a little WD-40 on a small rag and use it to polish the chrome sections on your vehicle. This will help you keep that new car shine and protect the body of your car at the same time.

Lubricates Gas Caps

While stopping for gas is #1 on America’s most annoying daily activities, not being able to get your gas cap off can make the situation even worse. WD-40 can make the process that much easier. Spray a little bit on your gas cap to make filling up a squeak-free process.
